World Premier of "Reckoning of the Abyss"

Award-winning Virginia-native composer Heather Spence along with the Longwood University orchestra will premier a new work featuring chamber orchestra and solo viola da gamba. The viola da gamba is a 6-stringed instrument similar to both a cello and a guitar that was very popular in the Renaissance. Spence, a marine biologist in addition to composer and musician, explores themes of marine conservation. Reckoning of the Abyss references movie soundtrack and world music styles, evoking ancient pirates and ocean memories.
